** tek rap box ** issue 36 } music by ok3anos } gfx by deathlord/mystic } code, compilation and font by bifat today we have some space left on disk, so why not fill it up with a lengthy scrolly! it's an open letter to those who think they have some entitlement, or feel offended by the distinct approach of *** box, because their production hasn't made it on our series, or because it takes them too long before they are allowed to click on some internet link garnered with a bunch of dancing emojis. if you think that TEK packdisks are some sort of nostalgia, you are very wrong. we are TEK, and we do not emulate. as creators we seek the maximum of immersion in our stuff. when we indulge, then in the reality that we create ourselves. we do not deny the shitty reality of today - we provide means to change it! not on PC, because PC are lame cripplesuck made by techbros and infested with spyware. PC are just barely good enough to run some kind of open source unix - for supporting the good life, on good computers. as i already tried to convey, making packdisks the way we do them is a certain amount of work, takes time, costs money, uses up rare and valuable disks, needs envelopes, labels, hand-writing of addresses on them, stamps, going to the post office... we spend days testing the entries on different amigas, with axxel, ecs and aga, with different kickstarts, and so on. then we apply remedies from our menu's ample set of features, and sometimes write to the creators and ask if they can provide repairs and fixes. this is a lot of fun, and we're just sticking to the original concept. i simply want to watch all the stuff on a real machine, and in doing so build up an archive, a library of filedemos and intros ... chiefly for myself, in the first place. as it turned out to be a major hassle to download the stuff e.g. from dropbox, peel executables from disk images wrapped in zip archives, test them, and finally get them ready for well-tended, cultivated consumption, naturally i came to the conclusion: this is torture. and nobody should be condemned to repeating that. for what? just for watching demos in the way they were meant to be consumed. from real media, on a real computer, with no youtube and macintrash in vicinity. so, this takes time and is a big investment. some packdisks may not have that in mind, and be a different kind of investment. published online, quick, easy. some may not even have seen an amiga and a disk drive - ever. (no criticism for that. it's just lame, höhö.) if you need a quick fix of something downloadable from the internet, get an internet pack. their disk space is not physical, it's for free. our disk space is very valuable. i collect old disks, i format them over a couple of times. then i dispose 30-50% of them. so, to make this worth our while and effort, we need to curate - very carefully. and eventually, even windows users and internet troglodytes may profit from that work, with a small delay. (we get back to that point later.) so your production is a great achievement? you trained yourself in tracking music, honed your skills as a painter, learned the hardware reference manual inside out. still, yours may not be the most important production in the world. not yet. so you have made a great production after so many years, with all the sweat, tears, blood, jizz, or whatever bodily fluids and exudations. as exclusive releases on our packdisk it would likely be included with no hesitation, immediately, no questions asked. because we always seek to increase value. so if you are looking for a premium distribution channel - send us your stuff first. we release it for you in a proper way - with increased value for you, and us, and everybody else. however if your stuff gets released on some ACME tech company's internet server first: sorry, no bonus. and if your stuff doesn't make it on the current packdisk - maybe it will be included with the next. because there's always an overlap between sendings, and work is carried over from the current issue to the next. i always need material to fill up disks almost 100 percent, because space on real disks is fucking valuable. and i always send exactly two disks per sending, because postage is fucking expensive, but most affordable with 2 disks. so if there's only one disk full, this means: delay. if it's foreseeable that new stuff takes a too long time to materialize, we then pair one disk of new stuff with one disk of old stuff. this is a choice dictated by physical and fiscal reality, and so we often keep stuff in spare for filling up the next issue. naturally we tend to have the top material on the current sending, and save the not-so-top material for the next one. and hell... if you prefer: of course you can download our packdisks from the internet. with a networked amiga, from our servers, with software that we provide. it's called lubricator - check it out. it just may happen that we are lazy and it takes some time until we provide links on the internet, because we're recovering from sending the disks. too bad and sucks to be you if you have no subscription, no real computer, no disk drive, and spend your life in a padded rubber cell with just internet and a pc! so i hope i could explain the motivation and process a bit. and if you still don't get it, no apologies. death threats go to: bifat at neoscientists.org packdisk greetings go to ... grillcrew, agima, void, contain, oxygene, azure onyx, spreadpoint, greippi, slumgud, desire, fnuque! released: 2nd june 2025 ... wrap ...
